Sandvika, 23 April 2025 (OSE: NORCO): Nordic Office of Architecture, a subsidiary of Norconsult ASA, is chosen as the architect to design NRK’s (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) new media house in Oslo, Norway. The team behind the winning proposal is Nordic Office of Architecture and Arup together with Rodeo Arkitekter.
NRK will get a sustainable media house of international standards that will enhance the visibility and integration of NRK in the cityscape, promoting interaction with the local community. It will be a signal building surrounded by a park that extends onto the roof, with stormwater management and biodiversity enhancing the environment and ecological connections. The new media house will consist of two buildings – a base of four floors housing broadcasting functions and forming a highly efficient "production machine" with studios, workshops, newsroom, and service court.
According to NRK, the new headquarters is projected to be completed by 2029.
“This award is a significant recognition of the market position of Nordic Office of Architecture, and the company’s ability to handle complex, society-building projects with multiple stakeholders. The trust given by NRK is also an acknowledgment of our highly skilled architects, and we are very proud to continue shaping society and contribute to the history of NRK," says Bård Hernes, EVP Norway Head Office at Norconsult.
The media house has an estimated area of 70,000 square meters gross floor area, of which a maximum of 50,000 square meters net floor area above ground. The Circle, an iconic part of NRK's brand, hovers above the base visible from large parts of Oslo. Above this, a recessed "crown," a circular structure of four floors with offices and workspaces. The cutting-edge media house will not only be a flexible and vibrant location for world class media productions, but an excellent workplace for future generations.
The contract will be signed after a 10-day waiting period.
